The main purpose of this lighting concept was to help children to understand that materials used in products go through life cycles and they can have an influence over where the materials could go next. Each light unit has a message etched onto it with the intention of provoking curiosity and awareness of materials' life cycles.

The following images show a selection of development work. The work has been heavily annotated as the assignment required the work to show a every level of decision making and justifications for design features.

Each tessellating light unit can be turned on by standing it up or lying it down to turn it off using a simple tilt switch.
